WHAT IS A SCREENING?
Quinnipiack Valley provides screenings for cholesterol and glucose. The cholesterol screening is a fingerstick test which measures the total blood cholesterol. You do not need to fast for this screen. It takes three minutes to get the result. It does not measure good and bad cholesterol.

The glucose screen also uses a fingerstick sample of blood. The
results are obtained within 18 seconds. This test is best performed when people have fasted after 10:00 p.m. of the previous night.

You should understand that a screening test such as performed by QVHD is not a diagnostic test.  While it gives you a numerical value representing your total cholesterol or your fasting glucose level, such screenings do not consider other risk factors or your health status.  A screening does not substitute for medical diagnostic testing or medical care.  When a screening result is high, you are referred to your medical doctor for follow-up care.
